Botox and Chin Dimpling

Botox has been around for nearly 70 years. It was not until the 1960s that doctors realized that it could be used to combat the signs of aging. Today, Botox is commonly used to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes and on foreheads. What you might not know is that Botox can also be used to improve the appearance of chin dimpling, creases, and wrinkles.

The use of Botox to reduce chin dimpling
Chin dimpling is sometimes referred to as golf ball chin, or peau d’orange. Research suggests that chin dimpling can be passed on genetically.
Patients who have had neuromodulator injections used on their mentalis muscle have seen great improvement. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are neuromodulator injections that have the most optimum effect. With careful placement in the mentalis muscle, the muscle becomes relaxed and the surface area looks smooth, reducing the prominence of the chin dimpling whilst maintaining natural movement.
For patients who have especially deep chin dimpling, using facial fillers or a combination of neuromodulator injections and fillers may deliver the best results.
Safety first
As with any medical procedure, it is imperative that patients only receive treatment from a qualified and experienced practitioner. Neuromodulator injections are a proven safe treatment for chin dimpling, however, patients could experience adverse side effects if the injections are administered by someone who is inexperienced or who is not trained in this treatment.

Questions & Answers

What are the causes of chin dimpling?

Chin dimpling is commonly caused by a hyperactive mentalis muscle. The increased contracting of the muscle can cause wrinkles and creases to appear in the chin. These can be reduced with the use of neuromodulator injections. In some cases, acne can be the cause of chin dimpling. In this instance, facial fillers or a combination of fillers and neuromodulators may be the best treatment.

How does the use of Botox help chin dimpling?

Injecting Botox into the mentalis muscle stops the transmission of nerve impulses. This, in turn, stops the muscle from contracting during facial movement, which causes the chin dimpling. By relaxing the muscle and preventing it from contracting, the area smooths out and reduces the appearance of the chin dimpling

How much does it cost?

The cost of the treatment varies for each patient’s needs, the treatment area and the desired outcome. Contact us to schedule a consultation with our experienced team to discuss your requirements and to put together your personalized treatment plan

Am I a suitable candidate for the treatment?

If you are in good health and are looking to improve the appearance of your chin dimpling or wrinkles, you may be classed as a suitable candidate for the treatment. Schedule a consultation with a qualified team member and they can assess your suitability in greater detail.

How long do the results last?

The results are dependent on each person as each patient’s body metabolizes the neuromodulator at different rates. From our experience, results using Botox injections normally last between four and six months. It is safe for the treatment to be repeated once the results have worn off.
