Chin Augmentation utilizing soft tissue fillers
People interested in improving the appearance of their chin will be pleased to hear that soft tissue fillers are effective and safe treatments for shaping and contouring the chin. The chin is a critical component of facial balance that has previously often been overlooked, but can now be non-surgically and efficiently improved. Chin augmentation leaves the skin appearing naturally shaped and tailored to the desired needs of each patient. The extensive experience of the providers at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center in filler treatments will allow them to address your needs, leaving the appearance of your chin naturally enhanced. Some of the fillers commonly used for chin augmentation are JUVÉDERM Voluma XC, Restylane Lyft, and Radiesse.
Frequently Asked Questions
Patients can expect to see results in the chin, such as improved definition or structure, almost immediately after treatment. These results will be fully realized in the following days after treatment. Results can last between 6-9 months, and in some cases longer, after which many patients prefer to come in routinely to maintain results.
Filler procedures are quick, with minimal levels of discomfort, and are well tolerated by most patients for a number of reasons. Some fillers even contain a local numbing agent, lidocaine, which minimizes discomfort during the injection. Additionally, we have localized, topical anesthesia for patients concerned about minimizing discomfort.
All of the fillers used for chin augmentation are FDA approved for the augmentation of the chin region in adults over the age of 21. In the dermatological experience of the providers at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center, these fillers are also appropriate for adults over the age of 18.
Most patients have very few side effects and those that they do have are quick to resolve. To minimize potential side effects like bruising, swelling, and pain, patients should avoid strenuous activities, sun exposure to the chin, and alcohol for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Patients can expect to continue normal activities including spending time with family, running errands, or gentle stretching. Patients who experience side effects can Extra Strength Tylenol and apply ice to affected areas. There are extremely rare reports of the product inadvertently placed in the surrounding blood vessels causing skin necrosis (loss of tissue). This rare complication can be managed with the use of a compound called hyaluronidase or Vitrase (an eraser for the hyaluronic acid), amongst other treatments.
