Brown spots can appear on the skin for a variety of reasons and may include sun spots, sun freckles, age spots, moles, birthmarks, and others. Many individuals look to improve the appearance of or remove brown spots because they can be unsightly or embarrassing. The expertise of the providers and skin care experts at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center covers a range of treatments appropriate for a number of different kinds of brown spots.

Additionally, having a medical evaluation of brown spots is important to ensure they are benign. Individuals looking to remedy their brown spots and/or find out whether their brown spots are of medical significance can call today to schedule an appointment.

What causes brown spots?

Brown spots can be caused by a number of different conditions. Some common benign brown spots may be: (pls hyperlink to these pages)

  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Warts
  • Skin Tags
  • Benign Moles
  • Birthmarks

Brown spots may also be caused by a significant number of other conditions, including skin cancers, which is why it is important to have a dermatologist evaluate brown spots, especially those that may be changing or appear irregular.

What treatments does Skin and Laser Dermatology Center offer for brown spots?

Depending on the kind of brown spot or darkened area, Skin and Laser Dermatology Center has a number of different treatment options.

If the brown spot is of medical significance, your provider will treat it appropriately, potentially by observing, biopsing, or applying cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen) to the area, among other possibilities.

If the brown spot can be treated cosmetically, your provider or skin care expert may recommend one of the following, among others:

  • Laser treatments: these can be effective for improving the appearance of brown spots. There are a number of different lasers that may be recommended depending on the pigmented area and unique factors relating to each patient. Some of the lasers commonly recommended at Skin and Laser Dermatology Center for brown spots are Picoway lasers, Fractional CO2 Resurfacing laser, and the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, and GentleLASE.
  • ABMD Brightening Cream: a specially compounded cream that is dermatologically tested to reduce the appearance of dark areas.
  • Chemical peels and Melanage Ultra Peel : these peels excellent treatments for rejuvenating the skin and reducing hyperpigmentation by promoting cell turnover.

When should I have brown spots medically evaluated?

It is important to have brown spots and the entire skin routinely medically evaluated. It is possible for new lesions (spots and/or marks) to occur and existing lesions to change over time. By carefully self-monitoring the skin for changes and routinely being examined by a dermatologist, potential skin conditions can be identified and treated early. Patients also benefit from peace of mind, knowing that their skin is in good health.

Raised facial lesion removal with ablative CO2 laser

Ablative CO2 laser resurfacing precisely removed the raised facial lesion in one session. Temporary post-laser redness was still visible when the follow-up photo was taken and typically continues to fade as the area heals.

Dr. Bajoghli always has time for his patients, you never feel that he is rushing you and after you leave if you have any concerns he is very responsive to the point of giving out his cell phone number. I can’t say enough about him and his staff.

Nurse Rassmussen answers all of my questions, listens to my concerns, examines my skin, goes over my treatment protocol and gets me out the door quickly, but without feeling rushed, so that I can get on with the rest of my day. I have already recommended this practice to a couple of friends, and I will continue to do so with confidence.
