Patient Spotlight: Col. Larry A. Elliott
We are thrilled to celebrate one of our incredible patients, Col. Larry A. Elliott.
Larry served as a Reconnaissance Systems Officer aboard the legendary U.S. Air Force SR-71A Blackbird, the fastest and highest-flying jet ever built. The aircraft was originally designated the RS-71, short for reconnaissance, but during its unveiling President Lyndon B. Johnson announced it as the SR-71. The name stuck.
A World Record Above 85,000 Feet
On July 28, 1976, Larry and Capt. Robert C. Helt set a world record for the highest altitude in horizontal flight, reaching 85,068 feet over California. That is more than 16 miles above the ground; commercial aircraft typically cruise at approximately 35,000 feet.
Larry's achievement is recognized by Guinness World Records and the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. We are proud to provide medical care to remarkable patients like Larry. Thank you, Larry, for your service and for sharing your story with us.

We accept some Medicare Replacement plans; please call to verify coverage. Patients should confirm benefits directly with their insurance company. For plans with which we do not participate, we can provide itemized documentation for submission to your insurer.
